Certified Mulch Installation 

After the manufacture of the product, Renewed will store the product on-site until it is to be sold, loaded, delivered, or installed onto the play area, or similar. The installation of our Engineered Wood Fiber only becomes a Certified Product upon installation if the following attributes are all completed. 

Certified Engineered Wood Fiber must be: 

• Transported in a clean unit, free from debris or other undesired items. 
• Installed to a depth of no less than 12 inches of wood fiber surface for certification. 
• Installed loosely, non-compacted into the area. 
• Installed to the proper height markings on the equipment, usually shown on the equipment posts or provided engineered drawings. 

If the fall height is above 12 feet at any point, additional depth or additional requirements may be necessary. Please ask for our current impact height study, which usually ranges from 12 to 18 feet, to assure Certified Product coverage for taller equipment. 

Maintenance of Surface 

To ensure the proper depth of 12 inches, it is imperative that coverage is always maintained at 12 inches. This means that if areas of the product become displaced—usually under swings and at the bottom of slides—they should be raked and filled back in so that a 12-inch depth is always present. Inspections should happen often and as needed to ensure proper coverage. 

As Engineered Wood Fiber is a natural product that decays over time, its impact resistance also lowers with time and compaction. We recommend that old areas have an additional depth of 12 inches to help with impact protection. Old playgrounds with old mulch should also be evaluated, and the material should be changed for new material. 

Each site has different factors that should be considered—such as moisture, age, shade vs. sun, and other contributors to the longevity of the fiber. If the base is mostly compost, mud, or other non-mulch material, it should be removed and a new layer of 12 inches of mulch should be installed. 

Weeds, roots, and other debris should be removed from the site, and the site should be kept free of any debris. Any competent person or company may install our IPEMA Certified products. We offer installation via blower units for precise and efficient installations by knowledgeable staff.
